Gatka is the martial art form practiced by the Sikhs of northern India. The word, Gatka, is the name of the stick used to practice sword fighting—a slang expression coined in the 1900’s to describe a number of stick, staff, and sword styles, made for use in public demonstration. Much of Gatka practiced today is Europeanized version of India’s original martial art known as Shastra Vidyaa (Knowledge of Weaponry). |
